Criminal cases on the rise…
Its been said that you should not judge a man’s actions if you can’t walk a mile in his shoes, no sinner should go unpunished yeah, but what about if he claims his cause is justifiable? But can you justify a crime? Is it the criminal’s fault? Or are they being a product of Nigeria’s deteriorating state?
This Sunday, I got scammed of a certain amount of money I know it may seem small but it hurt me so much cause I had plans for the money, it kept me wondering how I could be so vulnerable or rather foolish to fall for such a trick.
So this is how the scam happened, I received a call from an unknown number, he told me he was someone I know (he mentioned the name of a friend of mine) his voice sounded so similar too so I thought it is this person I know, he went on to request for a certain amount of money so I sent it hoping to collect the cash on Sunday at church, little did I know that I was being scammed…
But yeah it worked and the guy has gone away with my money, he probably has spent it all now. But that it is not what matters what matters is that nemesis would soon catch up with him.
While I was in the hurt of this incident, I remembered how last year my laptop and my phone got stolen. I literally broke down when this happened it cause I just got that laptop and I have downloaded tons of tutorials and academic tutorial and someone came to steal everything away just like that.
It kept me wondering what goes on in the minds of these criminals as they do what they do, I could remember an article I read last year about cybercriminals, where one of these “ yahoo yahoo guys” said they will literally kill their conscience to do the things they do. It shows you the menace of the society we live in. That these guys are not afraid of nemesis, or do they have some kind of warranty that prevents them from nemesis? Certainly there isn’t such a thing.
What makes them think they could do the things they do and walk away with it just like that? Na juju?
These criminal cases are on the rise kidnapping, cybercrimes, armed robbery…. But we do we blame?
Funny, while I was writing this my neighbor just called me to help forward a text message (containing airtime) back to someone who told her it was sent to her by mistake, I quickly spotted that there is something wrong with this, because if truly it was sent by mistake shouldn’t he find the message in his sent box? I sent the message but warned her to be careful when the guy calls back.
This is obviously another tactic used by these fraudsters, I had a similar incident happen some weeks back where one baba aladura from ogbomoso called he claimed he sent me an airtime by mistake that I should resend it to him, I checked my messages and I saw a message containing some airtime, I resent it then this man said wants to pray for me. I ended the call, I once read a message online warning not to allow such if such ever happens.
My neighbor just came back to thank me, she said the man called back and it all happened just like I told her but she was smart enough to end the call. Only God know what evil could have happened.
Coincidentally my neighbor’s story reiterates the theme of this piece the rate of criminal cases in Nigeria is increasing rapidly majority of these cases are caused by unemployment as many would claim, there is not sufficient justice and places where there is punishment it often becomes to excess or uncalled for. It doesn’t matter who you are you can be vulnerable to be a victim to any of these crimes.
